Owls in Motion
Owls in Motion
Students investigate how BC owls live and hunt, then demonstrate their understanding by creating an owl and using purposeful movement to show how it interacts with its habitat. Through the use of Sphero or other programmable robots, students animate their owls to represent movement between habitats and food sources.
Animals have features and behaviours that help them survive in their habitats.
Science: Identify characteristics and needs of local animals (habitats and food sources).
Math: Recognize and create simple repeating patterns (eg. ABAB)
Art: Create artistic works individually or collaboratively to represent ideas.
Language Arts: Develop oral language by communicating in complete sentences.
ADST: Choose appropriate tools and materials; Make a product using known procedures or through modelling of others.
Technology: iPads, Sphero Robots and App
Services: Seesaw
Materials: Paper Cups, Large Chart Paper, Craft Supplies
👉 Note: We can help build your confidence with all of these skills before and during the project!
iPads: Connect iPads to bluetooth devices.
Sphero App: Navigation the basics of the app.
Seesaw: Support students with uploading their recording and reflection.
👉 Note: Just like the teacher skills, we can help build students' confidence with all of these skills before and during the project!
iPads: Safe handling skills.
Seesaw: Some familiarity with using Seesaw to capture reflections through photos, video and/or audio recordings.
Students cut, colour, and attach paper pieces to cups to create their owl.
Students use their Science learning to help create the places their owls will eventually move through.
Students bring their learning together by using purposeful movement to represent an owl travelling through its habitat to find food.
Such a cute owl getting ready to travel!
